Who are we?
We are a group of dedicated educators and parents who love the Conejo Valley and want to see future generations flourish here for Christ’s glory and for His Kingdom.

We're working to bring classical Christian education to our community, starting with the elementary years. We’re not building on new theories but on an educational philosophy that has been refined and tested through many generations and even now is not quite out of memory.

Altus in Latin means ‘high, deep, or profound’. We believe an education should lead students in these paths– that it should guide them on an ascent toward wisdom and virtue.

If you are a family, educator, or community member interested in joining the cause, we want to hear from you.

What is  Classical
Christian education?
Classical Christian education for many centuries went by a single name: education. In our confused times, however, it requires further definition. It is a model that acknowledges students are more than products, consumers, and even future citizens. They are God's highest creations, entrusted to us to be raised in the knowledge and pursuit of Goodness, Truth, and Beauty.

It is classical because it adopts the best methods and insights of the ancient Greeks and Romans—without which much Western civilization and indeed our own culture is an impenetrable fog.

It is Christian because it acknowledges Christ as the foundation of all knowledge, and the place where all striving finds its purpose.
"For by him all things were created in heaven and on earth. All things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together."
Colossians 1:16-17
Today’s education often feels fragmented, filled with opposing ideas, culminating in the hope of little more than acceptance to a good college and the reward of a good job. Worthy hopes, but far too small.

Classical education aims higher.

It follows the path of the liberal arts as they have traditionally been understood—the disciplines that set a person free (Latin: liber)—with the goal of raising up fully formed humans, capable of seeing, appreciating, and participating in the world they live in as image-bearers of God.
How is it different?
"The deepest of all desires for knowledge is the desire to know what the world is for and what we are for."
G.K. Chesterton
Why does it matter?
In Southern California we live amid a series of intractable contradictions. We obsess over happiness, yet know far less about how to achieve it than the generations that came before. We are driven to progress, but progress toward what few can define and fewer still defend. We rush to knowledge but forget that the proper aim of knowledge is wisdom.

Classical Christian education acknowledges Christ as the firm center of all these pursuits, and the only path to fully realize their goals. It strives to take the best of our vast intellectual and spiritual inheritance and apply it toward the cultivation of people who think clearly, love well, and serve all.
"When first things are put first, second things are not suppressed but increased."
C.S. Lewis
